What we are pushing for right now

Oxy has broken federal law which protects our rights to engage in union activity, including holding rallies and protests. On Tuesday, November 18th, Vivian Santiago, the dean of students at Occidental College, tried to silence our bargaining team members through threats of discipline and intimidation tactics.

Dean Santiago, and the college, threatened our student labor union organizers with conduct charges for the use of a bull horn during a rally held on the academic quad. ROSE filed an unfair labor practice (ULP) law suit against the college in response to these threats of charges. Two students were given conduct charge hearings and recieved written warnings from the college. In response ROSE filed an additional ULP on February 4th of 2026.

These threats and charges are a clear union busting tactic, one that is federally illegal. By attempting to silence student labor union organizing and attempting to punish students for on campus organizing, Oxy has violated the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). This is a clear infringement on free speech and shows just how far Oxy has strayed from its mission.

It is time for us to stand up and speak out against Oxys unfair free speech restrictions. If you are a student or alumni please sign our petition. If you are affiliated with an outside organization or would like to join us in our origzing efforts please add your email to the list below and/or see our contact information below to get in touch with us.
